The following candidates are running for 2012 Vice-President position:
GSBA Vice-President Candidate Profile : Sharmina Ali
Sharmina Ali, CPA is a practicing professional accountant with 11+ years of industry experience in auditing, reviews, tax planning & return for large and small businesses, individuals, estates and trusts. She enjoys yummy food, meeting new people, and discussions on contemporary issues. She graduated from San Jose State University, California with a B.S. in Finance.
Belief: It is important for any elected leader to care as a guardian of the organization. Also, an elected leader needs to be loyal to the organization, and make sure that he/she is not using it for personal gain. An elected leader should also be faithful to the mission, vision and values of the organization.
Goal: I want to maintain an organization unafraid of making mistakes. I want us to continue to try new things, and there are a lot of approaches to doing that. I want our organization to be a launching pad for community activities for our kids and ourselves. That means that GSBA should continue to experiment with things beyond usual activities, and give & support people in our community and beyond . I want GSBA as the beacon for “Service, Solidarity, Goodwill and Friendship” and a fountain of “Aspiration, Hope and Unselfish Giving” for our children and the community.
Why Me? I believe that I’m analytical, fair, balanced and honest. I attempt to solve problems quickly, and am strongly devoted to making this organization a world-class organization it deserves to be, and something that everyone who is volunteering, participating, and attending our projects/events can be proud of. I’m a strong advocate of the view that if we stay focused on our mission to serve, all of us and our children will feel very gratified at the end of the day. At the same time, I like to balance the seriousness of implementing events & projects with having fun together.
I’ve worked both professionally and personally with other non-profit organizations, and have the experience and networks that will enrich our organization. For the past year, I have served as the Media & Public Relations coordinator for GSBA. It will be my honor to serve the community again.
