The following candidates are running for 2012 "Chair – Media and Public Relations Coordinator" position:
GSBA "Chair – Media and Public Relations Coordinator" Candidate Profile : Sagarika Chakrabarty
Many of you may already recognize me as a coordinator for kid’s cultural segment in last two GSBA program (Eid and Bijoy Dibosh). Yes, I’m Sagarika. I am a very engaging and social person. As a mother of two, I always enjoy working with kids. I always listen to parents’ view points and concerns and work with them and their kids to be able to organize successful programs.
As a medical student in Bangladesh, I was involved with various cultural and social organizations including Udichi, Biggyan Chetana Porishad, Sandhani Blood Donation group etc. When I was a PHD student in Japan, I was involved with KBC (Kansai Bangladeshi Community), an organization in Kobe, Osaka and Kyoto region. We (me and my husband) organized a show to introduce Bangladesh in “Kobe Day Festival” which was nationally broadcasted (in NHK TV) at that time.
In all of the above instances, I had the opportunity to work across cultural and organizational boundaries to promote our Bengali culture and build a stronger bond and relationship within the community.
Currently I work as a research scientist at Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla and as a part-time faculty at United States University in Chula Vista.
I submitted my nomination for the position of Media and public coordinator to serve Bangladeshi community through GSBA. I believe, my experience, people skills, and passion for the area will make me the best candidate for the position. Therefore, I request your support and look forward to work with everybody.
