GSBA 2012-2013 Chair-Community Outreach Candidates Profiles
The following candidates are running for 2012 "Chair-Community Outreach" position:
GSBA "Chair - Community Outreach" Candidate Profile : Rana Huq
I am Rana Huq. I moved to San Diego about 9 years back and now I call San Diego my home with my wife and daughter.
I have been with QUALCOMM as a communication engineer since my move. Prior to joining QUALCOMM I worked in the IT field for 8 years.
AABEA is the first US/Bangladeshi organization where I join/served as "Executive Member" of southern California Chapter. I joined AABEA hoping to gain/provide technical knowledge.
My favorite two countries are Bangladesh and USA. I always wanted to do something where I can contribute to make people’s life better. That was one of my main reasons to join GSBA and second reason for my daughter to have exposure to Bangladeshi culture.
I previously organized a comedy event (12/7/2007) with help of Naveed Mahbub where we raised funds for the Bangladeshi flood victims. To organize the above event I needed to provide non-profit organization ID to secure QUALCOMM’s hall and matching grant. I had to seek support from SpaandanB a nonprofit organization head-quartered in San Francisco Bay Area for their non-profit ID. Since then I realized that we needed to have a nonprofit organization here at San Diego for the future endeavor.
If I am elected, I will get myself and others involved where we could volunteer and raise funds for the needy Bangladeshis and also support US projects.
Some of the projects for Bangladesh that I have in mind include raising funds to support projects in Bangladesh to help provide clean water, organize short term doctor visits to Bangladesh for providing free service to needy, and help other Bangladeshi non-profit organization by sponsoring events or projects.
Some of the US projects that I have in mind that include volunteer walks (i.e. cancer walk), get us and our kids involved in helping out in Soup Kitchen, Food Bank Donation, and literacy efforts.
Please note that the above projects are some of my ideas but I am open to other ideas as well and will be seeking more volunteers (even outside of GSBA members).
It will give me great pleasure and sense of accomplishment if we can alter someone’s life to make it better via our effort.
